Dresser Redo part 2

IMG_2571

It’s lookin’ pretty good isn’t it?  I’m loving it and know it is going to look great in the girls room.  After all the work I put into preparing the dresser I was ready to slap some paint on it and call it done!

But of course it is never that easy is it?  I primed it, painted it, and painted it again.  For the most part it looked great… except the ends.  The darker color kept leaking through.  So I painted it, and painted it again.

It looked pretty good so I put one more coat on it and called it done!  I scraped off all the paint off the mirror (I decided to not even try to tape it off and to just be careful… being careful didn’t work so well!)  But then I decided I didn’t like the finish, I wanted it to be a little more glossy!  So I dug out another can of paint and put two coats on it to play it safe.  And yes, I then had to scrape the mirror off again!

After letting her sit a few days to make sure she was really dry she came in!  I spray painted the old hardware and used them again.  The dresser was missing 1 knob when I got it, so I bought crystal ones from Hobby Lobby, and I LOVE them!  I really wanted to ‘decorate’ her, but I wanted her to be the girls to do with what they wanted so I didn’t.  On went their piggy banks, and lamp and we were good to go!

It was worth it though.  Doesn’t she look pretty?  *sigh*  :0)

Campin’

This spring we packed up the kids and went down to the land where daddy hunts to start getting wood for the winter.   The kids had a blast running around in the woods and riding in the 4-wheeler cart.

CampinDay1 CampinDay1-1

It was very pretty, and so calm.  Until the chainsaw started that is!

CampinDay1-2

The kiddos had a great time climbing up this big hill.  It might not look big, but it was BIG!

CampinDay1-3 CampinDay1-4 CampinDay1-5 CampinDay1-6

Did you see Deric in the first picture?  I love that you get a feel for exactly how big the trees are.   A lot of the trees were attacked by west elm disease (or something like that), so we were cutting down the dead ones to burn.

CampinDay1-7 CampinDay1-8

Where’s Waldo?  (Or Deric and and 4 wheeler)

CampinDay1-9

…How about the girls

CampinDay1-11

…and Brody

CampinDay1-10CampinDay1-12

I was very impressed at Brody’s climbage.   He came up by himself, and went up the steep side with no help!

CampinDay1-13 CampinDay1-14

The girls found a few snails and we watched them for a while.  As gross as they are, they are kinda cool!

Cutting down a tree

CampinDay1-16

…there she goes!

CampinDay1-17 CampinDay1-18

The kids and I were sitting while daddy was dropping the tree, and I turned around and caught Reygann like this!  Eww! (She might kill me one day for posting these, but she looks so cute how could I not?!  She would be cuter without the finger… but beggars can’t be choosers!)

CampinDay1-19 CampinDay1-20 CampinDay1-21 CampinDay1-22  CampinDay1-24

There was this really big old tree that must have been on the edge of a property line at one point because there is barbed wire coming right out of the middle of the tree!

CampinDay1-25 CampinDay1-26 CampinDay1-27 CampinDay1-28 CampinDay1-29

After daddy cut up the trees we would load it up in the cart and bring it back to camp.  The kids took turns riding with daddy, and I stayed back with the ones that didn’t go and get ready for the next load (or rest up before he got back!)

CampinDay1-30 CampinDay1-31 CampinDay1-32 CampinDay1-33

It may not look like much, but it was quite a bit of wood!  We would have gotten more, but we had to leave room for the 4-wheeler!

CampinDay1-34 CampinDay1-35

Relaxing by the fire after a long day,  ahhh!

CampinDay1-36

And yummy dinner grilled over the fire!

CampinDay1-37

All was great till I spotted this litte bugger on the ketchup at dinner.

CampinDay1-38

A few minutes later Reygann said she felt like she got a bug bite, we thought that was a little odd since there weren’t any bugs around (it was only April 2nd).  We checked and this is what we saw.

CampinDay1-39

A tick!  Ewww!

 CampinDay1-41

My poor baby!  We didn’t have and tweezers or anything so we had to use daddy’s pocket and utility knife!

CampinDay1-42

We were in the middle of nowhere, otherwise I think we would have gone to get something to help.  We stopped often and gave her brakes from daddy picking at her.

CampinDay1-40

Whenever we would stop I’d give her a marshmallow for being so brave!

CampinDay1-43

We finally got it out, shew!

CampinDay1-44

I love that Kylie was being so sweet to her sister trying to make her feel better here.

CampinDay1-45

After finding hats for everyone to wear to walked up to the field to see if we could spot any deer.

CampinDay1-46 CampinDay1-47 CampinDay1-48 CampinDay1-49 CampinDay1-50

I finally let everyone go back into the woods (as long as they promised to NOT take off their hats), and we cooked up some smores and enjoyed the fire.

CampinDay1-51

I was impressed at the amount of stars we could see down there, and the kids were too.  Except Reygann said it hurt too look up, so daddy picked her up so she could see them too.

Day 2

CampinDay2 CampinDay2-1

We woke up to a soggy new day.  So we decided to pack up and go home since it was going to be too muddy to do much else.

CampinDay2-2 CampinDay2-3

The girls slept in the tent all by themselves!  We were very impressed!

Waiting for breakfast

CampinDay2-8 CampinDay2-9

During hunting season Deric fixed the outhouse, you no longer had to watch your feet as you went!  That was nice.  And so is the view!
