Spring Cleaning

The front of the house has been looking really dead the last few weeks, everything else is turning green and blooming but it just looked blah out front.  I took a closer look and realized I had stuff greening up and blooming, but you just couldn’t see it because of all of the dead stuff on top of it!

Doesn’t that look so much better?!

Here to…  Ahhh!

RumorWeeds-5

We had a TON of weeds too.  See where the mulch is disturbed, that’s where the weeds were!  They were all attached too.  It was a billion small weeds all attached to one gigantic root system!  The kids were out helping me, and it brought up the veggie tale movie Larry Boy and the Rumor Weed.  They thought it was pretty cool that they could actually see what the movie was showing.

 RumorWeeds-6

Here is the largest part I got out in one piece.

Deric came home while I was still outside working.  He came out to where we were and pretended to have a heart attack that I was out weeding!  What a stinker!

It’s an improvement… but I can’t wait till things bloom and fill out and look better!

My Artists

I bought a bunch of canvases to put on the ledge with high hopes of the kids making ‘art’ for our playroom.  The more I thought about it the more I was dreading having them do it!  I tend to be more of a perfectionist about some stuff, so I knew this might drive me over the edge!  I wasn’t going to have them make them yet, but someone kept pestering me about doing them and I just got sick of them bugging me, so I finally let them do it!  I was going to get a paint pen or something to make it easier, and a few new brushes… but that didn’t happen either.   Since the thought of all 3 of them wielding paint brushes at the same time terrified me I had them do it one at a time!  :0)

The first child painted the flower one, I thought I was going to DIE!  They painted a bunch of yellow middles not really thinking about where they were placing them, then they started to add the flower around it and sometimes it was really lumpy and bumpy!   I wanted to grab the brush and ‘fix’ them SO BADLY!!   I did pretty good at holding back, and not saying much either… but I did slip a few times *sheepish grin*  Even the stems being uneven and splotchy drove me crazy, but once it was al done it was like MAGIC.  I LOVE IT!!!  I can’t stop looking at it, I want a million more painted just like it!  *sigh*

It did take all day to get them finished, since I was doing them one at a time (and blow drying them in between the colors).  It was requested that the bird and the tree ones matched, so I helped them make it line up on the bottom.  The tree and bird were done in pencil by the child, but then I was asked to edge the bird’s body and the top of the tree, that’s it.  The rest of it is all them!

House Update

Oops! I didn’t realize I didn’t post these pictures yet, so this is a bit out of order! Lets pretend you didn’t see the last post about the carpet, K? Thanks! I guess I was a bit excited!!

We didn’t realize till after the drywall was up and the walls were painted that we never pulled a line for the tv antenna! Oops! Deric asked Reygann to come down and help him, he needed someone really tiny! I was curious what he needed a tiny person for so I went down stairs with her. He needed her to squeeze in the wall between the wall of the old house and the wall in the playroom so she could grab the cable and pull it out!

She was really excited at first, but then it turned to scared.

HouseUpdate-1HouseUpdate-3

Kylie gave it a try and could fit! So she wanted to do it. Once Reygann knew Kylie was going to do it she wanted to give it another try.

HouseUpdate-5 HouseUpdate-6 HouseUpdate-7

They got almost all the way there and she freaked out, and didn’t want to do it anymore! So they backed all the way out, and then Kylie went in first, that made it better. They got the cable and saved the day! Did I mention that it was dark and they were trying to do it by the light of the flashlight I was holding? I later realized that we could have shone it through the window (that used to be the outside window), then Deric said oh, I guess we could have used the window to get the cable, oops! Ha-haa! The girls had fun though, and they tell anyone that will listen about their adventure!

HouseUpdateHouseUpdate-8

I finally got the doors, jams, casing, base, and cove painted! Deric installed them, filled the nail holes and I painted them yet again! Ugh!

HouseUpdate-9

He started building the desk, and this crappy picture is the only shot I got of it! Oops! Primer and 5 coats of paint later it was ready to install!!

HouseUpdate HouseUpdate-1

Daddy and his helper installing desk. We had to wait for the wood filler to dry so we cleaned out the basement to get it ready for carpeting!

HouseUpdate-2 HouseUpdate-3

Doesn’t it look nice?! I don’t remember the last time it was this empty! It’s always been the tool dumping place, and any construction stuff we had has lived here while we have been working on the house the last few years.

HouseUpdate

Deric sanded the desk top, and I primed and painted (and painted, and painted, and painted…) it and it’s ready to install!

HouseUpdate-1

Doesn’t it look nice?

HouseUpdate-2

It’s almost done! He cut shelves for me, and I stuck them in to see what it’s gonna look like. …but I really don’t want to paint any more and they are still in there, UNpainted! Isn’t that terrible? He’s almost done building the tv cabinet… I’m gonna have to prime and paint that too, so I’ll do the shelves then. :0)

Carpet

WE HAVE CARPET!!!! Need I say more??

Carpet-1

…ok fine, I’ll keep going! Of course al the kids were ‘helping’ daddy most of the time he was working. Brody stopped and took a quick nap under the carpet that daddy wasn’t using. I was really tired too still, so I climbed under with him and took a nap too. (No pictures of that though!)

Yup, someone stepped in the glue! How did I know that was going to happen??

Carpet-12

Can ya guess who did it?

Carpet-10

How ‘bout now? :0)
